Yuliana, Tomi named Cici and Koko

JAKARTA: University students Yuliana and Tomi were crowned the winners of the West Jakarta mayoralty's Cici and Koko (older sister and brother in Chinese) contest at Glodok Plaza, West Jakarta, on Saturday evening. The awards were handed over by West Jakarta Mayor Sarimun Hadisaputra.

They beat other 30 finalists after being tested by the five- member jury. All finalists wore traditional Chinese and Betawi (native Jakartan) outfits following liong (dragon dance) and a Betawi dance performances.

The chairperson of the jury, Ernawati Sugondo, said the finalists were judged on looks, personality, knowledge on tourism, knowledge of local society and knowledge of local and Chinese culture.

The contest, which was originally scheduled to take place on Feb. 24, was postponed due to three weeks of flooding that hit the city from late January. It was originally to celebrate Cap Go Meh, which falls 15 days after Chinese New Year. -- JP
