Yudhoyono test-drives ethanol-fuelled car

Seputih Mataram, Central Lampung (ANTARA News)- President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono test-drove a car running on ethanol produced by PT Indo Lampung Distillery here on Monday.

President Yudhoyono drove the green car around the test arena, flanked by Lampung governor Sjachroedin ZP, after visiting the company that produced the ethanol using waste from sugar production process belonging to Sugar Group Company.

Several cabinet ministers, district heads from across the province and other invitees attended the test drive.

Technicians from PT Indo Lampung Distillery said the use of ethanol had been proven more economical and environmentally friendly.

They said ethanol could reduce pollution by 12.5 percent compared to convential fuels and it could also made car engine more durable and improve combustion system.

During the visit to PT Indo Lampung Distillery President Yudhoyono inspected education facilities provided by the company for employees` children.

Sugar Group Company`s chief Gunawan Yusuf said the company had prioritized the facilities.

The Sugar Group Company runs a sugar production plant, an ethanol production plant and a plantation.

After visiting the Sugar Group Company the president and entourage returned to the province`s capital Bandar Lampung by helicopter where he would spend a night before returning to Jakarta on Tuesday. (*)
