YTR Confinement Case in Bandung: Frequent Relocations Suspected as Reason for Undetected Abuse
The confinement case involving a woman with the initials YTR in Bandung has drawn widespread public attention. Many have questioned how the alleged confinement could have gone undetected by local residents, given that the incident reportedly took place in a boarding house within a residential community. The victim’s family later revealed that YTR and the perpetrator frequently moved residences every three months. “They moved boarding houses every three months. The last one was in Cinunung,” said YTR’s sister-in-law, Melanie, as quoted from Denny Sumargo’s YouTube channel on Monday, 22 June 2026. Furthermore, the victim’s sibling, Afif, disclosed that the perpetrator had taken YTR to a boarding house at night before the victim was eventually found at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung. At the time, TH introduced YTR to the boarding house owner as his wife. “They came late at night, saying ‘Sir, I want to rent a room, this is my wife, she is sick.’ My sister was wearing a jacket, covered up with a mask and a beanie. So they were let in. The boarding house owner asked for their marriage certificate, but he said it would follow later as it was left behind. After a few days, they were asked again for the marriage certificate, but it was ignored,” Afif stated. Meanwhile, according to statements from other residents, they often heard banging sounds like thuds against the wall at night. However, there were no screams or cries for help from YTR, so it did not raise further suspicion. “From the residents’ accounts, every night there was often a ‘thud, thud’ sound against the wall, but no crying. After I asked YTR about it, she said she was beaten. If she was hit, she was not allowed to scream; if she screamed, she would be tortured more,” Afif recounted. The victim’s sister-in-law, Melanie, added that the residents were also reluctant to get involved because they saw TH’s aggressive and temperamental behaviour. “They said if someone coughed in the boarding house area, just coughing would make him angry. He once angrily brandished a machete at the residents. That’s probably why they were afraid to intervene. There was already some suspicion, but they didn’t dare to speak up,” Melanie explained.
