YPAC promotes equal right to education on Kartini Day

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Special School (SLB) of the Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) in South Jakarta is promoting equal rights to education on the occasion of Kartini Day, which falls on 21 April.

“We are bringing education that Indonesians from Sabang to Merauke, whatever their condition, ethnicity, or religion, all have equal and fair rights to schooling,” said YPAC Executive Director Agoes Abdoel Rakhman when met at the Kartini Day celebration at YPAC Jakarta on Tuesday.

Agoes views Kartini Day not merely as emancipation, but as R.A. Kartini’s struggle to realise educational equality for all society.

Therefore, this moment provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their talents by wearing traditional attire while instilling a love for the homeland.

“We want to instil in students and parents to add joy and gain value through the Kartini Day celebration,” he said.

The series of competitions involving 70 participants included singing, fashion shows, and makeup sessions.

In judging the competitions, he stressed that the judges assess their attitudes and appearances while performing in front of the public, hoping all participants gain confidence in their presentations.

“How they embody wearing the attire. There are people who are comfortable with the clothes, very confident when wearing them. We will look at that,” he said.

The Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (YPAC) in South Jakarta nurtures 76 students with physical to intellectual disabilities to develop abilities and independence.
