“So, the demand is under Article 243 as per the indictment, the new Criminal Code Article 243. And for the sentence, we demand two years and six months. That is, 2.5 years in prison,” said the Public Prosecutor (JPU) from the Bandung District Prosecutor’s Office, Sukanda, after the indictment reading session at the Bandung District Court on Monday.
Sukanda conveyed that several pieces of evidence related to the criminal act are still secured for the purposes of further legal proceedings. Meanwhile, evidence not related to the crime will be returned to the defendant.
“Yes, we’ll see later what the defence presented by the counsel or the defendant is like,” he said.
In the trial, the panel of judges gave the defendant the opportunity to submit a defence (pleidoi), scheduled for 20 April 2026.
Sukanda said the JPU team will wait for the content of the defence from the defendant or his legal counsel at the next trial agenda.
In the indictment, the prosecutor stated that the defendant made statements that insulted and provoked the anger of the public, especially the Sundanese tribe.
The prosecutor assessed that the statement has fulfilled the elements of the criminal act as regulated in Article 243 of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 243 of Law Number 1 of 2026.
The prosecutor stated that the act occurred on 8 December 2025 around 19.00 WIB in Krembangan Subdistrict, Surabaya City, East Java.
