YouTube Finally Complies with PP Tunas: We Align with the Government
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of Government Relations and Public Policy for YouTube Asia Pacific, Danny Ardianto, stated that YouTube shares the same stance as the Indonesian government in protecting children and adolescents in the digital space.
This was conveyed by Danny while explaining YouTube’s position in finally complying with the access restriction policy for users under 16 years old, as regulated in the Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
“We at YouTube, in line with the Indonesian government’s commitment to continue supporting protection for children and adolescents in Indonesia, have invested in this area for more than a decade,” Danny said during a press conference at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Furthermore, YouTube will continue to focus on its commitment to keeping the digital space on the platform safe.
“And also to support that future digital generations remain safe,” he added.
Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs issued an administrative sanction in the form of a warning letter to Google, as the operator of YouTube, for not yet complying with Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
Recently, Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid announced that YouTube, under Google, has now complied with the access restriction policy for users under 16 years old.
“Essentially, we want to convey that today the government appreciates that YouTube, certainly under Google, has submitted a letter of compliance. Thus, Google has once again given a commitment to compliance,” Meutya said during a press conference at the Communication and Digital office in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Meutya conveyed that YouTube had actually wanted to cooperate and comply with the law in Indonesia from the beginning, but needed time to make the changes.
Thus, Meutya said, all seven platforms, starting from X, Bigo Live, Meta (Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, YouTube), have given commitments of compliance to jointly protect Indonesian children in the digital realm.
