JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid announced that YouTube, under Google, has now complied with the policy restricting access for users under 16 years old. “Essentially, we want to convey that today the government appreciates that YouTube, under Google, has submitted a letter of compliance. Thus, Google has once again given its commitment to compliance,” Meutya stated during a press conference at the Komdigi office in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/4/2026). Meutya explained that YouTube had wanted to cooperate and comply with Indonesian law from the outset. “And today, the visible change is that YouTube has implemented notifications or alerts for the minimum age limit of 16 years,” she clarified. “Furthermore, YouTube has provided plans for deactivating accounts and simultaneously stated that it will eliminate ads targeting children and teenagers in the future. This is what has been conveyed, and we will continue to communicate to enforce these rules,” Meutya added. As a result, all seven platforms, from X, Bigo Live, Meta (Instagram, Facebook, Threads, TikTok, YouTube), have given their commitment to compliance to jointly protect Indonesian children in the digital realm. For information, the user access restriction is part of the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP TUNAS).
