Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is examining Google and Meta. This examination relates to both companies’ non-compliance with age-based social media restrictions in the PP Tunas regulation. Meta, the parent company of Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, was examined on Monday (6/4/2026). Today, it is Google’s turn, the owner of YouTube. “Meta came yesterday and we have conducted the examination, and today Google has also fulfilled our summons,” said the Director General of Digital Supervision, Alexander Sabar, during a press conference at the Komdigi office on Tuesday (7/4/2026). “Currently, Google’s examination is in process, from this morning at 10 o’clock until now it is still ongoing. So the picture is similar to Meta yesterday, more or less like that,” he added. Both technology giants were given 29 questions to delve into the alleged violations of the PP Tunas regulation. Regarding the results, Alex asked for patience as they will be further investigated. Meta itself has promised to provide additional documents as a supplement to the examination process. In a previous statement, Komdigi said that X and BigoLive have been fully cooperative with the regulation. However, Alex said they are still waiting for reports from all platforms on how many under-16 child accounts have been blocked since the implementation on 28 March 2026. “We are still waiting for reports from all platforms, and they are still waiting, asking for time for that, because there is a process they must do,” he said. Alex explained that platforms are conducting verification processes. Only after they are found will follow-up actions be taken, including account deletion. “So it’s their own verification process, and after they find it, follow-up actions are taken, whether deactivated or what, that’s what we’re waiting for. So the number is not yet available to us,” Alex concluded.
