JAKARTA - The youth who lit firecrackers to wake people for suhur in Pademangan, North Jakarta, will not face criminal proceedings despite being secured by his own friend, who is a police officer.

Tanjung Priok Port Police Chief AKBP Aris Wibowo stated that no elements of criminal offence were found in the incident, so the youth was not detained.

The youth was merely brought to the local RW head for counselling, accompanied by officers from Pademangan Police Sector.

“For the youth, there is no criminal processing, but he was given advice not to light firecrackers again to prevent disturbing other residents,” Aris said when contacted on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

According to Aris, this step was an initiative by community leaders to prevent the issue from escalating and to maintain good relations among residents.

The involved youths were also asked to apologise for disturbing residents’ comfort and for potentially tarnishing the image of law enforcement actions.

However, Aris did not detail the reasons why Rifki was also asked to apologise, although he previously emphasised that Rifki’s action in securing his friend was in his capacity as an officer.

“He stopped by the brawl monitoring post. He responded because there was a community activity that was disturbing,” Aris said.

After receiving the report, Rifki, who had just returned from duty, immediately followed up on the residents’ complaints by securing the perpetrator.
