Youth killed by student mob

JAKARTA (JP): A youth was killed yesterday during a scuffle
with students in Poncol, Central Jakarta.

An officer at the Senen police precinct said that Pepen, 19,
was stabbed with a sharp object in the left side of his neck.

Eyewitnesses said the victim was chased down an alley by a
band of senior high school students in uniform before he was
overtaken and assaulted.

The police had yet to ascertain yesterday which school the
students belonged to.

"Most of them usually do not wear their school badges and
sometimes some of them are not students at all," a police officer
said.

A local patrol officer said he knew Pepen to be one of a
number of unemployed troublemakers who often loitered in the
neighborhood.

"He often threw stones at passing public buses," he said.

Pepen died on the way to Cipto Mangunkusumo general hospital,
a source at the hospital said.

Pepen's body was being kept at the hospital for an autopsy,
