Youth in Bekasi's Puri Cendana Housing Collect Funds to Repair Road, Bekasi Regent: Already in APBD, But...

The actions of young people from Puri Cendana Housing in Sumberjaya Village, Tambun Selatan Subdistrict, Bekasi Regency, who repaired damaged roads through self-funding, have gone viral on social media and attracted public attention. Many members of the public have questioned the local government’s role in handling such infrastructure. In response, Acting Regent (Plt) of Bekasi, Asep Surya Atmaja, stated that the road repairs in the area have actually been included in the 2026 Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD). “Using the APBD takes time. But insya Allah, this has been included (in the APBD) and we will monitor it,” Asep said when confirmed via text message on Wednesday (6/5/2026). The Bekasi Regency Government has prepared a budget of around Rp 3.2 billion for repairing access roads in front of Puri Cendana Housing, with a work volume of 4,500 square metres. This step is taken to ensure that the residents’ self-funded repairs on internal roads are not wasted or affected by the government project. Asep also appreciated the residents’ initiative, which he believes can accelerate government attention to the road conditions. “Of course, I express my thanks for their enthusiasm,” he said. He revealed that currently, there are about 300 kilometres of damaged roads in Bekasi Regency. Meanwhile, the local government’s handling capacity averages only about 50 kilometres per year. Meanwhile, the Head of the Road Development Division of the Water Resources, Road and Bridge Construction Service (SDABMBK) of Bekasi Regency, Dede Chairul, stated that the total length of regency roads reaches around 1,077 kilometres, divided into 281 routes. The regency government is still striving to repair the damaged roads in Bekasi as soon as possible. “All subdistricts continue to receive handling, but priorities are determined based on the level of damage,” Dede said.
