Police have apprehended five perpetrators involved in the mobbing of a man from Bambanglipuro in Srihardono, Pundong, Bantul. The motive appears to be that the perpetrators, who were under the influence of alcohol, were intentionally seeking conflict.

According to the Chief of Pundong Police, AKP Rumpoko, the incident began when the victim, YP (19), a resident of Sidomuloyo, Bambanglipuro, was returning from a friend’s house in Sarang on Tuesday (12/5) at approximately 02:00 WIB. While travelling along Jalan Parangtritis Km 16, Pundong, YP noticed a group of motorcyclists by the roadside.

“Because he recognised one of the members of the group, the victim greeted them. The victim mentioned having met them at SMP 1 Bambanglipuro, to which the perpetrators responded aggressively, questioning why he mentioned the school, and proceeded to kick the victim,” Rumpoko told reporters at the Bantul Police Station on Monday (18/5/2026).

As a result of the kick, the victim fell from his motorcycle. The perpetrator and four accomplices then proceeded to beat the victim. The victim was subsequently taken by the group on a motorcycle, with three people riding on one bike, to a paddy field in Srihardono, Pundong. There, he was beaten again, and one of the perpetrators demanded his mobile phone and Rp 200,000 in cash.

After assaulting YP, the five perpetrators fled, leaving the victim in the field. Fortunately, the victim’s motorcycle was not stolen. Despite his injuries, the victim managed to reach a friend’s house and was taken to RSUD Saras Adyatma for medical treatment.

Following the victim’s report, the Pundong Police launched an investigation and successfully detained the five suspects within hours of the incident. The suspects include RPR (21) and ANC (22), both residents of Pundong, Bantul; SBP (26) from Sewon, Bantul; YR (25) from Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta City; and MNF (23) from Imogiri, Bantul. Notably, one of the suspects, YR, is a woman and the wife of SBP. All five individuals participated in the assault, with YR specifically noted for kicking the victim.

In addition to the arrests, police seized three motorcycles used by the perpetrators, the victim’s motorcycle, bricks, wood, and Rp 55,000 in stolen cash. Police stated that the group appeared to be looking for trouble while intoxicated.

The five perpetrators face charges of joint violence/mobbing under Article 262 of Law No. 1 of 2023 (the new Criminal Code), which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
