Youth and Sports Ministry Partners with New York University to Strengthen Sports Industry Research

Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) has partnered with New York University to strengthen research collaboration for developing the sports industry in Indonesia.

Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, through his official social media account monitored in Jakarta on Thursday, signed a memorandum of understanding with New York University regarding the collaboration.

He said the partnership between Kemenpora and New York University forms part of the government’s effort to build a more modern, knowledge-based national sports ecosystem.

Through the cooperation, Kemenpora seeks to draw on the experience and academic expertise of New York University in sports research, sports industry management and policy development that can be applied to advance national sport.

According to the Minister, Indonesia has great potential to become a centre of sports growth in Southeast Asia.

“It is time sport was no longer seen merely as a cost centre, but rather as a growth engine,” he said.

The Minister wants sport to create jobs, attract investment and drive innovation, strengthen sports tourism and boost the national economy.

The sports industry has significant opportunities to grow across various sectors, from competition organisation and sports facility management to sports technology and human resource development.

In addition, sports research will inform government policy, making it better targeted and capable of enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian athletes at the international level.

The Minister hopes the collaboration will produce a new generation of sports leaders, strengthen innovation and make Indonesia an increasingly respected player on the world sporting stage.
