Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday (Feb. 24), Thohir said the initiatives include due diligence, bureaucratic reform, and revision of the Presidential Regulation on the National Sports Grand Design (DBON).

Other priorities involve the ASEAN Para Games, drafting a roadmap and asset utilization guidelines, and convening a Southeast Asian ministerial meeting on youth and sports.

Further measures include an MoU with the Ministry of Industry on sports equipment standards and licensing, the revocation of Regulation No. 14/2024, deregulation of 191 ministerial rules through an omnibus approach, and construction of a sports academy and national training center.

Plans also cover revitalizing the Cibubur Youth Elite Sport Center into a sports science and rehabilitation hub, implementing car‑free days across Java’s 514 districts and cities, managing national talent in 21 priority sports, and establishing an athlete pension fund.

Additional programs feature youth camps, training for sports personnel serving disabled groups, national debate and speech competitions, the Indonesia Sports Summit on National Sports Day, the Indonesia Youth Summit on Youth Pledge Day, international youth exchanges, and preparations for the Asian Games and Asian Para Games.

Thohir noted that several agendas will extend beyond 2026, including the sports academy, athlete pension scheme, and preparations for major international competitions.

He has asked the Ministry of Finance to adopt a multi‑year budget framework to support programs that cannot be completed in a single fiscal year.

“Many events are scheduled for two or three years from now, but preparations must begin this year, such as the Asian Games and the Olympics,” Thohir emphasized.
