Jakarta – Efforts to encourage young Indonesians and nurture talented students need to be stepped up, including in mathematics. Mathematics is not merely about calculation; it also develops structured thinking, pattern recognition, information analysis and problem-solving skills.

In today’s digital and algorithm-driven era, these skills are considered highly relevant to technological development and the varied challenges of future innovation.

A range of competitions is being held to broaden opportunities for young talents of different ages and educational backgrounds to hone their mathematical abilities.

One example is TechConnect, which successfully held the grand final of The Genius Math League 2026, showcasing talented young Indonesian mathematicians.

The mathematics competition, open to participants of different ages and education levels and offering total prizes of Rp1 billion, tested logical and critical thinking, accuracy, speed and strategies for solving mathematical problems.

In the individual category, Kent Marcello Cendekia of Kesatuan Bangsa Junior High School in Yogyakarta won first place. Lim, Jovan Valencio of Karangturi Senior High School in Semarang came second, while Harrison Matthew Tanuwijaya of Penabur 3 Christian Senior High School in Jakarta took third place.

Kent Marcello Cendekia said he was delighted and grateful to have won the grand final.

“I found the series of events in The Genius Math League 2026 very interesting because it offered different challenges. We had to think quickly while still being careful when solving the problems,” Kent said in a statement on Tuesday (27 October 2026).

“I hope this win will help me continue to improve, and motivate all participants as they take on future competitions,” he said.

In the team category, the Semarang regional team took first place, the Tangerang regional team came second and the Yogyakarta regional team finished third.
