JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) at the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Commissioner Ni Luh Sri Arsini, stated that a young man, MAH (21), was beaten to death with a hammer by his younger brother, MAL (15), while he was feeding their pets.

“The older brother was bending over. He was in a bending position while feeding the pets, I think it was a bird,” said Sri when met by Kompas.com at the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Wednesday (25/2/2026).

“The younger brother, in a fit of anger, took a hammer and hit his older brother,” she added.

According to witnesses at the scene, the victim was initially found to be still alive.

The victim was then taken to a hospital in the Kelapa Gading area and was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The body was autopsied at the RS Polri Kramat Jati hospital before being buried.

The case is being handled as a case of domestic violence resulting in death.

“We are using Article 44, paragraph 3 of the Domestic Violence Article for this case. Physical violence resulting in death. The penalty is 15 years,” she added.

The police have questioned at least seven witnesses, including local residents and the doctor who helped transport the victim to the hospital.

Currently, the legal process has been escalated from investigation to investigation.

“And we are planning to upgrade the status of the younger brother from a witness to a child in conflict with the law,” said Sri.

Because the perpetrator is a minor, the examination process is being carried out with supervision.

“The examination is also being supervised by the Child Protection Agency (Bapas), by family members, and also by legal aid. It’s complete,” she said.
