Tamansari Police Sector Chief, Kompol Bobby M Zulfikar, said the incident occurred on Monday night (18 May 2026). He stressed that the incident was not a robbery, but an assault.

“We would like to clarify information circulating on social media. There was no element of material loss or theft of the victim’s property,” he said on Wednesday (20 May 2026).

CW, the owner of the laundry business, was about to close the shop at the time. Then the perpetrator arrived and pressed for the dirty clothes to be accepted.

The victim initially refused because the business hours had ended. Nevertheless, the victim eventually agreed to help by accepting the perpetrator’s dirty clothes.

“However, as the victim turned to weigh the clothes, the perpetrator suddenly launched a flurry of bare-handed punches until the victim fell down and cried out for help,” he said.

He explained that the motive for the assault arose spontaneously after a discussion with the perpetrator. Currently, police have arrested the suspect.

“At present, the suspect has been secured at the police station after being chased by the Buser Team, with help from residents around the local RW post,” he added.

Due to the assault, the victim sustained injuries to the right side of the head. The victim was subsequently taken to Tarakan Regional Public Hospital (RSUD Tarakan) for medical treatment.

“Regarding the act of violence, the suspect JA has been formally detained and charged under Article 466 of the KUHP (Indonesian Criminal Code) for assault to answer for his actions before the law,” he concluded.
