BPJS Ketenagakerjaan has invited students of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Diponegoro (Undip) to prepare for retirement from the moment they secure their first job. The message was delivered during a General Lecture on Pension Fund Literacy at the FEB Undip campus in Semarang on Monday (7/9).

The event formed part of the 2026 Pension Fund Month proclaimed by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) together with stakeholders. BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is using the occasion to bring education on old-age planning closer to prospective workers.

Trisna Sonjaya, Director of Services at BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, stressed that old-age planning should ideally begin the moment a person first earns an income. Work is not only about meeting current needs, but also about building economic continuity for the future.

“Old age really begins with one’s first job. When someone starts working and earning an income, that is precisely when future planning should also start to be built. The earlier we develop this awareness, the greater our chances of preparing for a self-reliant and prosperous old age,” Trisna said in a written statement on Monday (7/9/2026).

In Semarang, the launch was centred on the Simpang Lima area. By continuing the programme on campus, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan hopes to bring the message of old-age planning closer to young people who will soon enter the world of work.

“We want students to understand that old-age planning is not only the business of the generation approaching retirement. It is precisely the young generation that has the longest time to prepare for it. Equip yourselves with the competencies to enter the workforce, make sure you have protection from the moment you start working, and build the habit of preparing for the future early,” Trisna added.

He hopes that literacy on social security and retirement planning will not stop in the lecture hall. The knowledge students gain is expected to become a provision when entering the labour market, as well as to be shared with their families and surrounding communities.

The 2026 Pension Fund Month serves as a moment of collaboration between the Financial Services Authority and stakeholders, including BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, to improve public literacy and inclusion regarding the importance of preparing for retirement while still of productive age.

Meanwhile, Cahyaning Indriasari, Head of the Central Java and Yogyakarta Regional Office of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, said the spirit of the 2026 Pension Fund Month aligns with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s role in providing protection to workers throughout their life journey, including through the Old-Age Security and Pension Guarantee programmes.

“Retirement needs to be prepared while we are still actively working, not only considered when our working years are about to end. Through the Old-Age Security and Pension Guarantee programmes, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan wants to ensure workers have provisions and income continuity so they can go through old age more calmly and prosperously,” Cahyaning concluded.

The event was also attended by Asep Iskandar, Head of the Guarantee Supervision, Pension Fund and Special Supervision Department at OJK; Johan Hadiyanto, Head of the Economic Bureau of the Central Java Provincial Secretariat; Hidayat Prabowo, Head of OJK Central Java Province; and Cahyaning Indriasari, Head of the Central Java and Yogyakarta Regional Office of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.
