Commemorating World Environment Day 2026, Green Movement Indonesia is expanding its collaborative sustainable waste management campaign to the educational sphere. This was marked by the launch of the ‘Waste Wise Campus: Dari Kampus untuk Bumi’ campaign with Universitas Bakrie in Jakarta.

The collaborative campaign series began with an educational talk show bringing together perspectives from academia, industry, and the community. Carrying the theme ‘Building Awareness and Collaboration of the Young Generation for Sustainable Waste Management’, students were invited to understand the challenges of waste management in Indonesia.

Head of Corporate Public Relations at PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk., Andrew Ferdinand Hallatu, stated that change can be created through the tangible contributions of every element within an ecosystem. ‘The spirit inspired by nature teaches us that environmental challenges also require positive synergy, including the industrial world, academia, communities, government, and society,’ he said in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6/2026).

According to him, as centres of education and future national character development, campuses hold a strategic position in translating the spirit of positive change into real action. The Waste Wise Campus: Dari Kampus untuk Bumi programme is designed to increase student awareness regarding the importance of sustainable waste management.

‘Campuses are not only the birthplace of ideas but also a forum for cultivating habits that can have a positive impact,’ said Andrew.

Head of the Environmental Engineering Study Programme at Universitas Bakrie, Aqil Azizi, Ph.D., explained that as an educational institution, his party believes great change always begins with small, consistently performed steps. ‘Through the Waste Wise Campus: Dari Kampus untuk Bumi campaign series, we want to help build a culture of environmental care starting from the campus and carried out together with industry players and communities as part of a collective movement for a more sustainable future,’ he said.

The campaign is expected to encourage young people to become agents of change capable of promoting sustainable practices in their surrounding environments, while strengthening cross-sector collaboration in addressing Indonesia’s waste challenges.
