Yorrys to be tried soon
Yorrys Raweyai, chairman of the Jakarta chapter of a powerful youth organization, will be tried at the West Jakarta District Court soon for gambling.
Yorrys's dossier was handed over to the district court on Thursday by the West Jakarta Prosecutor's Office
The prosecutor's office said that the executive of the notoriously raucous youth organization, which is affiliated to the ruling Golkar, will be tried along with six other people who were arrested on July 20 at a gambling den on Jl. Daan Mogot, West Jakarta.
The suspects were caught red-handed playing rummy and macok at a house which also functioned as an office and a warehouse for plywood.
During the raid, police also confiscated Rp 1,572,000 (US$724.4) in cash, gambling paraphernalia and pornographic discs.
The chairman of the central executive board of the Pemuda Pancasila youth organization, Yapto Suryosumarno, reacted fiercely to Yorrys's arrest claiming it was politically motivated, a charge denied by chief of the Jakarta branch of the Agency for the Coordination of Support for National Stability (Bakorstanasda Jaya), Maj. Gen. Hendropriyono. (has)
