Yorrys Raweyai, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), said the council’s performance was increasingly recognised as a channel for the aspirations of people in the regions. He said this was due in part to the contributions of many parties, including DPD employees.

Yorrys said public confidence in the DPD had been on a positive trend. He made the remarks while opening a journalism workshop and training session for DPD RI staff and expert advisers at the Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City in South Jakarta.

“Of course, this success would not have been possible without the contributions and cooperation of all stakeholders within the DPD RI. All this work is captured in information that reaches the public, becoming positive reports and news that deserve recognition,” Yorrys said in a statement on Tuesday (27 October 2026).

More than 300 DPD RI staff members and expert advisers attended the event. The workshop and journalism training, themed ‘Safeguarding Recognition, Spreading Information’, was intended to support the DPD’s oversight, budgetary and regional representation functions.

“Journalistic skills are expected to serve as a tool for disseminating information about the performance of DPD members and the institution,” he said.

Yorrys said the DPD leadership for the 2024–2029 term had given substantial and consistent attention to regional issues. He said this would not be possible without reporting that was current, objective and consistent.

“The voices of people in regions that have so far been beyond the reach of the mass media are continually being encouraged to emerge, become national issues, and be recognised as part of regional and national development,” he added.

Yorrys, a senator representing the Central Papua electoral district, recalled the DPD’s slogan, ‘From the Regions for Indonesia’, and said he hoped it would be put into practice.

“Amid the rapid flow of information and the widespread use of social media, much information circulates without its objectivity or accuracy being verified. Sometimes false reports are more appealing to consume than accurate information,” Yorrys said.

“All of this plays an important role in our shared effort to strengthen unity among the people of this nation, avoid division and make all forms of difference a source of strength,” he added.
