Yonif 725 Task Force Discovers 21,400 Cannabis Plants in Yahukimo

Jayapura (ANTARA) - The RI-PNG Mobile Yonif 725/Woroagi Border Security Task Force (Satgas Pamtas) has discovered approximately 21,400 cannabis plants ready for harvest in the Ibiroma Complex, Kurima District, Yahukimo Regency, Highland Papua.

Commander of the III Regional Defence Joint Command (Kogabwilhan III), Lieutenant General TNI Lucky Avianto, stated in a press release in Jayapura on Thursday that the discovery was the result of operations conducted by personnel from the RI-PNG Mobile Yonif 725/Woroagi Task Force in the Yahukimo Regency area.

“On Wednesday (9/9), we discovered a cannabis field where a significant quantity was found, and the plants at the location were estimated to be ready for harvest,” he said.

According to Lucky, the discovery is part of the authorities’ efforts to prevent the distribution and abuse of narcotics in the Papua region, particularly in areas with difficult-to-reach geographical conditions.

“The existence of cannabis fields in that area is a concern for the authorities because they have the potential to become a source of narcotics circulation that can harm the community,” he added.

After discovering the field, Task Force personnel took actions in accordance with procedures to secure the location and the evidence of the cannabis plants found.

“We will continue to increase security activities and patrols in the assigned area to prevent the emergence of illegal activities that could disturb public security; therefore, steps are needed to prevent and eradicate the circulation of narcotics in the assigned area,” he further stated.

Lucky added that this success demonstrates the importance of the presence of personnel in the field to monitor areas with heavy terrain and difficult access.
