Yogya's cultural bulletin launched

YOGYAKARTA: In a bid to provide greater access and information to
the public, the Yogyakarta municipal board of culture (DKK)
launched over the weekend Umbul, a bimonthly bulletin on culture.

Speaking during the launch at the official residence of
Yogyakarta Mayor Herry Zudianto, DKK chairman Achmad Charris
Zubair said the bulletin would feature only light writings on
culture.

"More serious, complicated material on culture will be
published in a cultural journal that we plan to publish also,"
Achmad said.

Officially founded on Dec. 13, 2003, as an independent body to
manage arts and culture issues, the DKK comprises artists,
academicians, professionals, observers and art lovers. The board
is tasked with helping the local government create a dynamic,
civilized community capable of developing all aspects of culture
in the region.

"We have a long-term policy of developing a foundation for the
future of Yogyakarta culture," Achmad said. -- JP
