Yogyakarta's Economy Grows 5.49 Per Cent, OJK Continues Financial Literacy Campaign
Yogyakarta’s Special Region (DIY) economy grew by 5.49 per cent cumulatively in 2025. Several industries contributed to this growth, including the processing industry, accommodation and food services, construction, forestry, and agriculture.
In response to these figures, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in DIY remained committed to enhancing financial literacy amongst the population. “Throughout 2025, we conducted 17 educational programmes, both offline and online, reaching a total of 2,054 participants,” said Eko Yunianto, Head of OJK DIY, during a media briefing and joint breaking-of-fast event with OJK and media representatives in Yogyakarta on Wednesday (11 March 2026).
Eko highlighted several factors contributing to DIY’s economic growth. The first factor was the substantial increase in tourist arrivals to DIY during Christmas and the previous year. The second factor was the central government’s intensified Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG), launched the previous year.
“This is why DIY’s economic growth in the fourth quarter of last year contributed a significant figure of 5.94 per cent,” Eko stated.
Nevertheless, Eko cautioned that there were upcoming challenges to maintaining DIY’s economic growth. One such challenge was the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. “I see that the global economy is fraught with uncertainty. We must continue to monitor this development,” he said.
He remained optimistic that financial literacy among DIY’s population would continue to increase. This was indicated by the growing number of complaints filed by the public via OJK. “There were 288 complaints throughout last year, with 48.3 per cent relating to banking, followed by 31.3 per cent relating to capital markets,” he noted.
OJK DIY was also aware of the increasing number of financial transaction fraud schemes affecting the population. Therefore, OJK DIY conducted a simulation on how to file complaints via the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) through iasc.ojk.go.id.
