Yogyakarta's Daop 6 records 72,596 passengers during Islamic New Year holiday
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta recorded passenger mobility reaching 72,596 people on the national holiday for the Islamic New Year 1 Muharam 1448 Hijriah, Tuesday (16/6). Manager of Public Relations for KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, stated in Yogyakarta on Tuesday that the figure comprised 41,612 departing passengers and 30,984 arriving passengers across various stations in the Daop 6 Yogyakarta region as of 10.00 WIB. Compared to the previous day, there was a significant increase of 114 percent. This surge included a 124 percent rise in departures and a 101 percent rise in arrivals. Feni added that the figures remain dynamic as go-show ticket bookings continue to be served until midnight tonight. Overall, the highest mobility was observed at Yogyakarta Station with a total of 33,883 passengers (departures and arrivals), followed by Lempuyangan Station with 17,422 passengers, and Solo Balapan Station with 11,878 passengers. The remainder was distributed across Klaten, Purwosari, and Wates stations. To anticipate the passenger surge during this holiday period, KAI Daop 6 operated three additional train sets, namely the Fakultatif Sancaka (Yogyakarta–Surabaya Gubeng round trip), the Batavia (Solo Balapan–Gambir round trip), and an additional train for the Yogyakarta–Gambir route. ‘The presence of these additional train journeys is expected to provide alternative options for the public planning trips during the long weekend holiday,’ she said. KAI urged customers to always pay attention to departure schedules and manage their travel time to the station to avoid missing trains, given the heavy road traffic during the holiday period. ‘The public is encouraged to continue utilising train services as a safe, comfortable, and punctual mode of transport. Tickets can be booked through the Access by KAI application, the official KAI website, and other official ticket sales partners,’ Feni concluded.
