Yogyakarta's 270th Anniversary Celebrations to Include Train and Hotel Ticket Discounts
The city of Yogyakarta will turn 270 on 7 October 2026. A series of events has been prepared to enliven the city’s anniversary throughout October.
This year, Yogyakarta’s anniversary carries the theme ‘Authentic, Concrete’. Authentic is understood as the identity and distinctive character of Yogyakarta, encompassing its history, culture, traditions, creativity and the potential of its people, all of which form an inseparable part of the city’s life.
Meanwhile, concrete means that this spirit and identity of Yogyakarta is realised in activities and tangible works involving the community and delivering benefits that can be felt together.
“This authentic, concrete theme is very fitting. Because it speaks about Yogyakarta’s identity. And concrete speaks about how that identity can be realised in the form of actions and works that ultimately benefit us all,” said the Mayor of Yogyakarta, Hasto Wardoyo, at a press conference at Yogyakarta City Hall in Umbulharjo on Monday (7/9/2026).
Hasto said there are seven flagship events in the celebrations of Yogyakarta’s 270th anniversary. One of these is YK Festisale, to be held from 1 to 30 October 2026. During the event, the public will receive various offers and discounts from a number of sectors, ranging from MSMEs and hotels to long-distance train tickets.
“There are seven flagship events that will run from 1 October to 30 October. The details of what will take place in these seven flagship events will be announced later,” he said.
Beyond the seven flagship events, Hasto added, the Yogyakarta City Government is also preparing various activities in collaboration with a number of partners.
“In addition, there are also many activities organised in collaboration with our partners. Therefore, we are very grateful to Kadin (the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), KAI (the national rail operator), the banking sector, and everyone who has worked together to prepare these activities,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the 270th Anniversary Celebration Committee, Kadri Renggono, said a number of hotels will also offer promotions throughout October. These promotions will take the form of price reductions as well as bundling packages with various events.
“The hotels will also offer several discounts, or bundling with various events throughout October. We have already discussed this with the Chairman of PHRI (the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association) and his team. Including on 7 October, at the peak of the celebrations, all PHRI member hotels will serve signature Yogyakarta dishes for breakfast,” Kadri said.
“Then, the next segment is retail. Retailers, including the Malioboro Business Association, will also participate together in the YK Festisale event,” he added.
The Passenger Transport Manager of PT KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Anan Hadriyanta, said the company is also preparing a number of activities to enliven the city’s 270th anniversary.
One of these is a mini event to be held on the eastern side of Yogyakarta Station on 21–22 October. The event will involve a number of partners, including state-owned enterprises (BUMN) and MSMEs, and will feature musical performances.
“Regarding the mini event planned for the east of Yogyakarta Station: on 21–22 October there will be several activities. First, we plan collaborations with our partners, several BUMN through our BUMN holding company cooperation. There will be a number of MSMEs, and also music,” he said.
“We have also collaborated with the Pakualaman Palace. We plan to stage wayang (shadow puppet theatre) as well, on the east side of Yogyakarta Station,” he added.
In addition to these activities, KAI also plans to offer discounts on train tickets, particularly for group travel. However, the size of the discount is still awaiting approval from its head office.
“And, God willing, we will also receive permission from the head office to sell tickets at a discount, especially for groups. The details will be announced later, as approval from the central office is required,” he concluded.

YK Festisale (1–31 October 2026): promotional discounts involving the trade sector, MSMEs, retail, hotels and various businesses.
Symphony of 1,001 Batik Makers (3 October 2026): to be held on Malioboro.
Malioboro Run (4 October 2026): to be held on Malioboro.
Sarkemfest (5–31 October 2026): with the theme ‘Malioboro Across Time’, to be held on Jalan Pasar Kembang.
Peak of Yogyakarta’s Anniversary Celebrations, WJNC (7 October 2026): to be held at Kilometre Zero, attended by all 14 districts (kemantren) of Yogyakarta.
Kustomfest (10–11 October 2026): to be held at Jogja Expo Center.
Authentic City Rally (25 October 2026): starting at Yogyakarta City Hall.
