Yogyakarta Youth Dies in Suspected Klitih Stabbing Outside SMAN 3

YOGYAKARTA – An 18-year-old youth, identified as AA, died after sustaining stab wounds in an incident suspected to involve klitih in the Kridosono area of Yogyakarta City in the early hours of Sunday (17 May 2026). Police are currently investigating the case and hunting for suspects.

Yogyakarta Police Chief of Public Relations, Iptu Dani Hasan, outlined the sequence of events. The victim was attacked while riding a motorcycle with a companion near SMAN 3 in the Kota Baru area. He sustained severe chest injuries from a bladed weapon.

‘Upon arriving at the southern entrance of SMAN 3 Yogyakarta, the victim dismounted the motorcycle and was immediately assaulted by the perpetrators using a bladed weapon,’ Hasan stated in a press release on Monday (18 May 2026).

Following the incident, the victim was taken to hospital by his companion on a motorcycle, but his condition deteriorated en route.

‘While transporting the victim to hospital on I Dewa Nyoman Oka Street in Kotabaru, Yogyakarta, he fell off the motorcycle. Local residents assisted and transported him to the hospital using a church ambulance,’ he added.

The victim later died at Panti Rapih Hospital in Yogyakarta after receiving medical treatment. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and investigating the full details of the incident.

The type of bladed weapon used by the suspects remains unknown. Authorities are still verifying the exact circumstances of the incident and have not yet confirmed whether AA was a victim of klitih.

‘The investigation is ongoing,’ Hasan said.
