Yogyakarta wins double deal
JAKARTA (JP): The international motor federation, FIM, has
granted Yogyakarta the right to host the world motocross
championship race, for the second time, next year.
FIM announced the decision during its annual conference in
Geneve earlier this month, a foreign affairs official of the
Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), Doly Indra Nasution, said on
Sunday.
Doly said the decision was made following a field inspection
conducted by FIM envoy Georgy Kokenyesi last month at the Pugeran
circuit, ahead of the upcoming world championship race.
Indonesia's first world motocross championship is scheduled for
July 29 and 30.
"FIM finds both the facilities and the on-going organization
of the motocross championship quite satisfactory," Doly quoted
FIM officials as saying. FIM did, however, ask the organizers to
repair the starting gate and to improve the telecommunications
network. (amd)
