Yogyakarta to launch 'Langit Biru' program
YOGYAKARTA: The provincial government of Yogyakarta is to launch
a Langit Biru (Blue Sky) program early next year in a bid to have
cleaner, healthier air and a greener environment as well as to
reduce the gas emissions from motorized vehicles.
Head of the project, Pieter Lawuasal, claimed the program,
which will kick off on Jan. 6, 2004 would include a series of
activities.
"In cooperation with related institutions, we will conduct a
very tight control on the emissions and maintenance tests for
motorized vehicles whose number here has exceeded the road
capacity," Pieter said.
Pieter also said that better management and arrangement of
buildings and energy would also be implemented for the program
along with a city reforestation campaign along the province's
main roads.
Energy has to be used as economically as possible with regard
to the preservation of nature, he explained. -- JP
