Yogyakarta to get its first deli

YOGYAKARTA: Food lovers in the ancient city are invited to an open house this Saturday held to mark the opening of Nino's Gourmet Deli & Bakery in Kompleks Kolombo, to sample bread and pies from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Claiming to offer a totally new food concept that combines Yogyakarta's first delicatessen, a sandwich shop and a bakery under one roof, Nino will offer a varied selection of food.

The gourmet section, for example, offers canned, bottled or prepackaged goods. Kalamata olives, Dijon mustard, specialty vinegars and grainy cereals are representative of imported items. Locally produced foods include organic rice and spices.

The sandwich counter features freshly baked breads such as New York-style bagels and sour dough bread, various sandwich meats and fillings, cheeses and condiments. For pastries, there are cream and meringue pies with seasonal fruits.

The shop also welcomes questions and discussion about cooking and eating. Customers are welcome, too, to browse through recipes, sample new tastes or suggest new products.

The shop will be open to the public from May 16, six days a week, except Sundays. -- JP
