YOGYAKARTA: The Yogyakarta District Court sentenced a 34-year

YOGYAKARTA: The Yogyakarta District Court sentenced a 34-year Muslim extremist, Muslimin Purnomo, to 3.5 years in prison for illegally possessing a hand gun with ammunitions.

Prosecutors had demanded the defendant alias Ipung be jailed for seven years.

Ipung immediately told the court that he accepted the verdict, while the prosecutors said they would consider appealing against the light sentence.

Mochammad Mawardi, who presided over the trial, said the defendant was proven guilty of illegally carrying and possessing a revolver and three ammunitions.

Ipung had been arrested by local police on Nov. 30, 2001 at the Communication Forum for Ahlis Sunnah Waljamaah on Jl. Tentara Rakyat, Yogyakarta. --Antara
