Yogyakarta Railway Division Operates 21 New Generation Stainless Steel Trains
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 6 Yogyakarta has modernised its passenger transport services by operating 21 long-distance train sets of the ‘stainless steel new generation’ type. Feni Novida Saragih, Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, stated on Monday that this fleet renewal is a manifestation of the company’s transformation to meet public expectations for safer, more modern, and more comfortable transport modes.
“This fleet renewal covers all service segments, ranging from executive, mixed, to economy classes. This is our commitment to providing a more memorable travel experience for our customers,” said Fames. This step is part of a procurement programme for 612 new train units produced by PT INKA (Persero), which is targeted for gradual completion by 2027. The introduction of these train sets is expected to enhance the quality of public transport services in the Yogyakarta, Solo, and surrounding areas.
The ‘stainless steel new generation’ trains offer several facility advantages, including ergonomic seats with reclining features up to 135 degrees and revolving seats that can be rotated to match the direction of travel. Legroom has been expanded, and the carriages are equipped with supporting facilities such as USB ports, power sockets, automatic soundproof sliding doors, and real-time passenger information display systems.
The list of 21 train services in the Daop 6 region using these new sets includes executive class services: KA Argo Dwipangga, Argo Lawu, Argo Wilis, Argo Semeru, Bima, Taksaka, Turangga, and Gajayana. Mixed class (executive and economy) services include KA Lodaya, Mataram, Bogowonto, Batavia, Gaya Baru Malam Selatan, Fajar Utama Solo, Senja Utama Solo, Ranggajati, Bangunkarta, and Singasari. Economy class services include KA Jaka Tingkir, Progo, and Majapahit.
In addition to seat comfort, these new generation trains feature more hygienic toilets, comfortable prayer rooms (musala), and baby care desks. Feni added that Daop 6 Yogyakarta is committed to continuously evaluating the operation of this new fleet to refine services. The division remains optimistic that this improvement in rolling stock quality will further encourage the public to choose railways as their primary mode of transport for business, family visits, or tourism in the Yogyakarta region.
