Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), through its Yogyakarta Operating Region 6, served nearly 10.6 million long-distance train passengers—10,595,662 in total—from January to September 2026.

KAI Operating Region 6 Yogyakarta Public Relations Manager Feni Novida Saragih said in Yogyakarta on Thursday that the figure was up 7.86 per cent on the same period in 2025, when 9,823,695 passengers were recorded.

“Passenger growth on long-distance trains through September 2026 shows that rail continues to be a popular choice for intercity travel, supported by improved safety, fleet renewal, better service facilities and other supporting benefits,” Feni said.

She said passenger movements from January to September 2026 comprised 5,303,898 departures and 5,291,764 arrivals at stations in the operating region. By comparison, the corresponding period in 2025 saw 4,925,045 departures and 4,898,650 arrivals.

“To make mobility easier, KAI continues to strengthen its digital services through the Access by KAI app, helping users plan journeys, book tickets and obtain operational information,” she said.

Feni added that operational safety remained the top priority.

According to data from KAI Operating Region 6 Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta Station had the highest long-distance passenger volume in the region.
