Yogyakarta Provincial Narcotics Agency Foils Smuggling of 2.71 kg of Marijuana from Sumatera
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) — The Yogyakarta Special Region Provincial Narcotics Agency (BNNP DIY) has foiled the smuggling of 2.71 kilogrammes of marijuana carried by suspect F from Baturaja, South Sumatera.
Head of BNNP DIY, Police Brigadier General Sulistyo Pudjo Hartono, at a press conference on the case in Yogyakarta on Friday, explained that suspect F and the evidence were apprehended on Tuesday afternoon (17 February) upon his arrival at Jombor Terminal in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta.
“The arrest was carried out after we received information from the public, prompting the BNN to conduct an investigation,” he said.
Suspect F departed from Baturaja on Monday (16 February) at 05:00 Western Indonesian Time and arrived at Jombor Terminal, Yogyakarta, the following day, Tuesday (17 February), at 17:25 Western Indonesian Time.
Upon arriving in Yogyakarta, the suspect had planned to meet a friend who had previously been an inmate at the same prison.
According to Sulistyo, this was not the first time suspect F had brought marijuana to Yogyakarta. In 2022, he was arrested with 600 grammes of marijuana as evidence and was only released from prison in April 2025.
“This time the evidence seized was considerably larger, at 2.71 kilogrammes,” Sulistyo said.
The BNNP DIY Eradication Team seized evidence comprising 12 packets of marijuana and one hand-rolled cigarette also containing marijuana, totalling 2.715 kilogrammes.
The breakdown comprised three packets containing 2.055 kilogrammes of marijuana, nine packets containing 660 grammes of marijuana, and one hand-rolled cigarette containing 0.57 grammes of marijuana.
In addition, officers also confiscated a backpack, one mobile phone, and a pair of trousers belonging to the suspect.
The marijuana packets were purchased by F from a friend in Kapahiang, Bengkulu.
According to Sulistyo, investigators are still examining the suspect’s motive for transporting the narcotics to Yogyakarta.
“We are still investigating further regarding his network, both upstream and downstream connections,” he said.
Suspect F has been charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Sentencing Adjustments, carrying penalties of death, life imprisonment, or a maximum prison term of 20 years.
