Yogyakarta Prosecutor's Office Forms Joint Team to Handle Daycare Child Abuse Case
The Yogyakarta District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) has formed a joint team of Public Prosecutors (JPU) to handle the criminal case of child abuse at Little Aresha Daycare, whose files have been transferred by the Yogyakarta City Police (Polresta).
“To handle this case, we have formed a joint JPU team consisting of senior prosecutors from the Yogyakarta Kejari plus senior prosecutors from the DIY High Prosecutor’s Office,” said Head of the Yogyakarta Kejari Hartono in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, forming a joint team of senior prosecutors in Yogyakarta was necessary because the number of perpetrators named as suspects in the child abuse case at the childcare centre reached 13 people.
In addition to forming the joint JPU team, he said, the prosecutor’s office is also intensively coordinating with investigators from the Yogyakarta City Police and the City Government through the Yogyakarta Regional Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAID).
“We are coordinating with KPAI and the Yogyakarta City Government to ensure that the psychological aspects and trauma recovery of the victims due to this incident are prioritised in the handling,” he said.
Furthermore, he said, in response to this incident, his party urges the wider community, especially parents in Yogyakarta, to be more selective in choosing childcare centres or daycares.
He added that the legal step for the JPU team after receiving the case file transfer will be to carefully finalise the indictment.
“And then it will be immediately transferred to the Yogyakarta District Court so that the trial can be held promptly to provide legal certainty for both the victims and the suspects,” he said.
