Head of Public Relations for Polda DIY, Senior Commissioner Ihsan, confirmed that the detained intelligence officer was a Polda DIY personnel assigned to secure the public expression of opinion. “He was a personnel involved in the service order for the expression of opinion yesterday,” Ihsan said. He explained that the officer’s presence at the location was part of monitoring duties to ensure that protest participants returned to campus safely. Ihsan stated that members at the location, whether in uniform or plainclothes, were part of the escort and service provision for the protesters. “The members at the location were part of the service implementation to escort and ensure the protesters returned to campus safely and soundly,” he said. He noted that the misunderstanding between the students and the police had been resolved humanely through communication and coordination with the rectorate and the students. Ihsan said the protest was attended by around 470 participants from the UMY Bergerak Alliance and UIN Sunan Kalijaga. He explained that security was provided from the departure of the participants until their return to campus, prioritising a persuasive and humane approach. Additionally, police personnel managed traffic around the protest site to ensure smooth community activities.
