The Yogyakarta branch of the Islamic Jihad Forum (FJI DIY) plans to lodge a counter report with the police following the disbandment of a congregation’s worship service at the Misi Sejahtera Church (GMS) in Sewon, Bantul, on Sunday (24/5). FJI DIY has outlined the reasoning behind its planned report.

FJI DIY Chairman Abdurrahman stated there had been manipulation on the part of the church. He declined, however, to elaborate in detail on the nature of this alleged manipulation.

‘The report concerns data manipulation by the church,’ Abdurrahman said when contacted on Tuesday (2/5/2026).

Regarding further details, he stressed that they would be provided when the report is formally filed. ‘We will prepare the statement later, at the time of the counter report.’

Abdurrahman explained that his side is currently preparing the case file concerning the alleged manipulation for submission to the police.

‘For now, we will not issue a statement first, because we are just preparing the documents for us to make a counter report,’ he said.

The previous case involving the disbandment of worship at the Misi Sejahtera Church (GMS) in Sewon, Bantul, by a mass organisation on Sunday (24/5) remains under police investigation. Investigators from the Yogyakarta Regional Police have upgraded the status of the case to the investigation stage.

Yogyakarta Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Ihsan, stated on Friday, 29 May 2026, that investigators had conducted a case review and upgraded the case status to the investigation phase. As of the latest update, investigators have examined 16 witnesses, though Ihsan did not specify their identities, noting only that the examinations have been carried out in a marathon fashion.
