Yogyakarta International Airport dispatches 9,320 Hajj pilgrims in 2026; inaugural services run smoothly

Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) dispatched 9,320 Hajj pilgrims this year, spread across 26 kloter (flight groups). The first group departed on 21 April 2026 at 23:40 WIB. The General Manager of YIA, Muhammad Thamrin, said YIA began serving Hajj flights from 21 April 2026 to 21 May 2026, with each group comprising 360 people. The pilgrims departing from Yogyakarta to Madinah will use Garuda Indonesia flight GA 6501, an Airbus A330-300. The 26th group, or the final group for the 2026 Hajj embarkation via YIA, will depart on 21 May 2026 at 03:40 WIB, bound for Jeddah.

‘The final group’s departure will be on Garuda Indonesia GA 6526 carrying pilgrims from Purworejo Regency,’ he added.

‘The facilities we have prepared to support the smooth operation of the 2026 Hajj embarkation at YIA include passenger service areas, document checks, security services, waiting areas, health facilities, and special services for elderly and disabled pilgrims,’ Thamrin said. Thamrin also noted that the airport is boosting manpower, particularly to support the security checks at the Hajj Hotel by providing a total of 15–20 Airport Security personnel. ‘Meanwhile, the operational and service staff at the airport, in the terminal area and airside, we have prepared 448 people,’ he stressed. He said that the Hajj debarkation is an important milestone for YIA, as the 2026 Hajj journey represents the first Hajj operation at YIA. ‘We are strongly committed to coordinating intensively with all stakeholders. YIA ensures facilities, equipment, and human resources are prepared to support Hajj flight operations,’ he said. ‘We believe the embarkation efforts are a significant step for us, particularly for YIA’s ongoing development.’ Located in Temon District, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) began operations on 6 May 2019. The airport was inaugurated by the President of Indonesia on 28 August 2020. The terminal covers 219,000 square metres and can accommodate up to 20 million passengers per year.
