Yogyakarta Immigration Tightens Foreigner Oversight, Expands Education to Prevent Human Trafficking

The Yogyakarta Class I TPI Immigration Office is strengthening its oversight of foreign nationals while expanding immigration education to the public to prevent human trafficking (TPPO), human smuggling (TPPM), and various transnational crimes, including online scams such as ‘love scamming’.

Tedy Ryandi, Head of the Yogyakarta Class I TPI Immigration Office, stated that this reinforcement is being implemented through two approaches: the Immigration Officer for Village Development (PIMPASA) programme to increase community literacy, and the monitoring of foreign nationals through the Foreigner Oversight Team (TIMPORA).

“Immigration for the people is not just a slogan. We are present directly within the community through Immigration-Guided Villages and PIMSASA, while remaining firm in monitoring foreign nationals who violate regulations,” said Tedy during the ‘Bincang Tipis-Tipis’ programme on the Tale Trias Info channel.

According to Tedy, low public understanding of procedures for working abroad remains a primary cause of human trafficking and smuggling cases. Consequently, starting in 2025, Yogyakarta Immigration began establishing Immigration-Guided Villages (DBI) as centres for immigration education at the village level. By mid-2026, 15 such villages have been established within the Yogyakarta Immigration Office’s jurisdiction, with an additional village currently being prepared. Through this programme, PIMPASA officers provide education on official procedures for becoming Indonesian migrant workers and introduce various illegal recruitment methods.
