Yogyakarta Governor Sultan HB X Takes Week-Long Leave for Medical Check-Up

The Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, has taken a week’s leave for health reasons. The Sultan has appointed Vice Governor KGPAA Paku Alam X as the acting daily governor (Plh).

DIY Regional Secretary Ni Made Dwi Panti Indrayanti stated that the appointment of an acting official is a normal mechanism in government administration. She explained that the vice governor covers the daily duties of the head of the region whenever the governor is unavailable for specific reasons.

“It is very natural and normal if the head of an institution is unable to carry out duties for any reason. Whether due to illness, official travel, or leave, the daily tasks will be covered by the deputy. This is a very procedural and normal process in the government bureaucracy,” said Ni Made in a written statement on Thursday.

She urged the public not to worry regarding the letter of appointment for the Acting Governor of DIY, which is valid from 24 June to 1 July.

“This decision is not a new policy or a particular political move, but rather the implementation of governance that has been regulated in statutory regulations. Every regional head who is temporarily unavailable is obliged to appoint an Acting Daily Officer so that government functions continue to run and there is no vacuum of authority,” she stated.

Ni Made also clarified the speculation developing regarding the condition of the DIY Governor, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. She confirmed that the Sultan is only undergoing a health check.

“So the main agenda for the Governor at this time is simply for a medical check-up,” she explained.
