Yogyakarta Government Provides Rp1 Billion in Emergency Relief for NTT Earthquake Victims
The Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) administration has provided Rp1 billion in emergency financial assistance to the Provincial Government of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to support the handling of communities affected by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake.
“For emergency response, the DIY Regional Government will assist with Rp1 billion to the NTT Provincial Government to support the handling of communities impacted by the disaster,” said DIY Regional Secretary Ni Made Dwipanti Indrayanti during the handover at Bangsal Kepatihan, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday.
According to her, the emergency financial assistance for the NTT earthquake will be channelled through the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS), which will then distribute the aid according to the needs and designated purposes for handling disaster victims.
“So we are centralising all of this assistance through BAZNAS, which will likely be the institution that subsequently distributes the aid according to its designated purposes,” she said.
In addition to the emergency financial assistance to the NTT Provincial Government, the DIY Regional Government also provided medicines and health supplies valued at Rp38.48 million, with the health assistance to be dispatched through universities and delivery services.
DIY Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said the emergency financial, health and humanitarian assistance provided could benefit the people of NTT, although it may not yet meet all needs on the ground.
“Hopefully this assistance will be of some benefit, even though it may not fulfil all the needs that are indeed required,” said Sri Sultan.
Head of the NTT Provincial Liaison Agency Florida Taty Satyawati said the current needs of communities in NTT primarily relate to emergency response, such as health workers, tents and ready-to-eat food.
She noted that, based on data as of 18 August 2026 at 18.00, the death toll from the earthquake in NTT stood at 70 people, with affected areas including Ruteng and Nagekeo.
