Yogyakarta Encircled by Two New Toll Roads, A Look at the Projects
The Special Region of Yogyakarta will be encircled by two new toll road projects. The first is the Jogja-Solo Toll Road and the second is the Jogja-Bawen Toll Road.
Citing the Instagram account of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works, the progress of the Jogja-Solo Toll Road, managed by PT Jasamarga Jogja Solo (JMJ), as of 22 May 2026, shows a number of works are still in the construction phase. Several work packages have entered the final stage of construction, particularly on the Kartasura-Klaten and Klaten-Prambanan sections.
The construction of this toll road is designed to support public mobility and accelerate logistics distribution. Furthermore, it will make accessibility to Yogyakarta International Airport (NYIA) easier, more comfortable, and efficient. The toll road is also expected to become a main driver of economic growth, tourism, and the development of strategic areas along the toll road corridor. Through the construction of the Solo-Yogyakarta-NYIA Kulon Progo Toll Road, more integrated connectivity is expected to be created between the Solo, Yogyakarta, and Kulon Progo regions.
The following are the construction progress details for Phase I of the Solo-Yogyakarta-NYIA Kulon Progo Toll Road:
Package 1.1 (Kartasura-Klaten Section): Operational
Package 1.2A (Klaten-Prambanan Section): Operational
Package 1.2B (Prambanan-Purwomartani Section): 95.28%
Package 2.1A (Purwomartani-Maguwo Section): 39.52%
Package 2.1B (JC Sleman-Trihanggo Section): 80.74%
Meanwhile, the Jogja-Bawen Toll Road, managed by PT Jasamarga Jogja Bawen, is also progressing. The land acquisition progress for the 75.12 km toll road has currently reached 72.66%. The details are as follows:
Section 1 Yogyakarta-Banyurejo (8.80 km): 98.93%
Section 2 Banyurejo-Borobudur (15.20 km): 93.6%
Section 3 Borobudur-Magelang (8.10 km): 83.02%
Section 4 Magelang-Temanggung (16.65 km): 70.30%
Section 5 Temanggung-Ambarawa (22.56 km): 31.15%
Section 6 Ambarawa-Bawen (5.21 km): 97.93%
Section 6, the Ambarawa-Bawen stretch spanning 5.21 km, is slated to begin operations in November or by the end of this year.
