The National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) emphasises the importance of supervision at childcare facilities (daycares). This is in light of the child abuse case at Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta.

BPKN Chairman Mufti Mubarok stated that daycares fall under the services sector, which is required to meet consumer protection standards, both in terms of security, safety, and operational legality.

Little Aresha Daycare is known to lack a permit. According to Mufti, the absence of a permit is an initial indication of serious violations that could potentially harm consumers, in this case, parents and children.

Mufti encourages local governments to tighten supervision of childcare institutions operating in their areas.

“Supervision must be carried out periodically and comprehensively. There should not be any more illegal daycares operating without clear standards. This concerns the safety of the future generation,” he said.

In addition, BPKN also highlights the importance of recovery measures for the victims. Mufti hopes that the government, together with relevant institutions, will strengthen comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation services.

“Handling does not stop at the legal aspect. Recovery from child trauma must be a priority. The government needs to ensure long-term psychological support, child-based trauma therapy, and active involvement of parents in the recovery process,” he stated.

Mufti recommends providing free counselling services, establishing integrated recovery centres, and periodic monitoring of victims’ psychological conditions. This approach is deemed important to prevent long-term impacts on child development.

Regarding the case handling, Mufti appreciates the swift actions of law enforcement in addressing the alleged child assault case at Little Aresha Daycare in Yogyakarta.
