Yogyakarta Daycare Abuse Case: Suspects Rise to 27

The number of suspects in the alleged child abuse case at Daycare Little Aresha in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta, has risen significantly. The Yogyakarta City Police reported an increase in both the number of victims and suspects in the case.

Kanit Perlindungan Perempuan dan Anak (PPA) of the Yogyakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Apri Sawitri, revealed that investigators have named 14 additional suspects. This follows the transfer of the initial 13 suspects to the prosecutor’s office, bringing the total number of individuals charged to 27.

Apri detailed that the 14 new suspects consist of 10 caregivers who handled children from infants to kindergarten age. In addition to the caregivers, police have named two administrative staff, one security guard, and one cleaner as suspects.

The security guard and cleaner were named as suspects because they are strongly suspected of knowing about the violence but choosing to remain silent. Police stated that they are considered to have allowed the criminal acts to occur within the daycare environment without reporting them to law enforcement.

In addition to the number of suspects, the number of child victims is predicted to continue rising. To date, police have examined 144 children. Examinations of approximately 60 more victims are scheduled to take place soon.

‘Examinations of the victims will continue next week,’ Apri Sawitri stated on Monday (6/7/2026). She explained that the examination process was delayed because investigators had to meet a crucial deadline in the investigation process of other suspects.

Given the large number of victims, the Yogyakarta City Police are collaborating with Dr. Sardjito General Hospital. This step was taken to ensure the victims receive intensive medical assistance and psychological recovery to address the trauma experienced by the children.
