Yogyakarta Customs and Excise Hosts Student Visits
YOGYAKARTA — Over a two-week period in October, Yogyakarta Customs and Excise hosted industrial visits by students from SMK Bhumi Phala Parakan and SMK Negeri 1 Lamongan. The agency also welcomed students from Darussalam Gontor University for an academic study visit. The activities provided an opportunity for students to learn more about the duties and functions of Customs and Excise, particularly its role in oversight and services that support the national economy.
SMK Bhumi Phala Parakan visited the Yogyakarta Customs and Excise Office on Wednesday, 7 October 2026. The programme was followed by an industrial visit from SMK Negeri 1 Lamongan on Wednesday, 14 October, and an academic study visit by Darussalam Gontor University on Monday, 19 October.
During the visits, students were introduced to Customs and Excise’s four main roles: collecting state revenue, protecting the public from dangerous and illegal goods, facilitating export and import activities, and supporting the development of domestic industry.
As well as learning about the agency’s main duties and functions, the students were given an overview of its day-to-day work. They were also introduced to challenges faced in the field, including increasingly varied methods of smuggling and legal violations.
These conditions require effective oversight, as well as assistance and strong coordination with relevant agencies and the public. At the same time, services for the public and businesses need to be continually improved so that customs and excise activities can run smoothly.
Riri Riani, Head of the Information Services and Outreach Section at Yogyakarta Customs and Excise, said public education was an important part of improving understanding of customs and excise. Information presented in an accessible way, she said, could help the public learn about the agency’s duties and functions and understand the applicable regulations.
“We hope these activities will create opportunities for young people to understand how customs and excise contribute to the economy and state revenue, while also building understanding and awareness of customs and excise regulations from an early age,” Riri said.
