Yogyakarta City Police Add National Education System Act Clause to Little Aresha Daycare Case

Yogyakarta City Police have expanded their investigation into the alleged abuse and legal violations involving Little Aresha daycare in Yogyakarta by incorporating clauses from the National Education System Act (UU Sisdiknas), opening the possibility of new suspects.

Head of Criminal Investigation Division Riski Adrian stated the additional charges aim to maximise legal enforcement based on ongoing findings. ‘Alhamdulillah, the clauses proposed by the legal team have been incorporated. One pertains to the National Education System implementation. Our aim is to apply the relevant clauses fully in line with legal facts,’ he said on Friday (29 May 2026).

He explained that Articles 62 and 71 of the National Education System Act, which prescribe up to 10 years’ imprisonment for unlicensed educational providers, are now being applied. The case is currently at the P19 stage, where the Public Prosecutor returns the case file to investigators for further completion before it is deemed complete for P21.

The Child and Women Protection Unit (PPA) of Yogyakarta City Police has interviewed 152 individuals to examine the sequence of events and involved parties. ‘There are clear indications of new suspects. We are still investigating whether the Sisdiknas clauses can apply to the foundation chairman, school principal, or others with expert witness assistance,’ he added.

The police aim to submit the first-stage case file to the Yogyakarta Public Prosecutor’s Office by 2 June 2026, accelerated due to suspects’ detention period ending on 24 June 2026 under the Child Protection Act. Authorities are also probing additional potential crimes, including public fund-raising and money laundering (TPPU), but details remain undisclosed for legal reasons.
