Yogyakarta Chinese Culture Week 2026: Location, Dates, and Event Schedule
Yogyakarta will once again present a vibrant and meaningful cultural celebration, the Yogyakarta Chinese Culture Week (PBTY) 2026. This annual event is an important part of the Chinese New Year celebrations in the multicultural city.
This year’s PBTY has a unique aspect: it will take place concurrently with the holy month of Ramadan. This adds to the atmosphere of tolerance, especially since PBTY is planned to be a place for ‘ngabuburit’ (leisurely waiting for iftar) and gatherings for various communities, while also promoting the theme of ‘Cultural Heritage Strengthening National Unity’.

Location of the Yogyakarta Chinese Culture Week 2026
As in previous years, this cultural festival will be held in the center of the Yogyakarta Chinese community, namely in the Ketandan area. Ketandan is known as Chinatown or the center of the Chinese community, which has a long history in the city of Yogyakarta.
According to the official @PBTYOfficial account, Jalan Ketandan will be decorated with typical Chinese New Year ornaments. Visitors in Malioboro and around Ketandan will feel the atmosphere of the Chinese New Year celebration, with its distinctive Chinese decorations and various cultural activities.
This location is very strategic because it is in an area that is easily accessible to many people. If you are interested in coming, you will experience two different atmospheres: in Malioboro, you will feel the Jogja and Javanese culture, and a short walk south, you will feel the strong Chinese atmosphere.
Dates for the Yogyakarta Chinese Culture Week 2026
Quoting the Instagram account @jcacc.ig, the Yogyakarta Chinese Culture Week 2026 is scheduled to take place from February 25th to March 3rd, 2026. This date was chosen because the Chinese New Year 2026 falls on February 17th, and the PBTY is always held as the peak of the Chinese New Year celebrations, with its festive atmosphere felt more broadly.
Because it coincides with the month of Ramadan 1447 H, the committee will package the PBTY events in a more friendly way. One way is to provide ‘ngabuburit’ activities and free iftar meals for the public or visitors who are fasting.

The Ketandan area will be decorated with colorful lanterns and cultural ornaments, creating a warm atmosphere. It will be a great place to take photos or enjoy the atmosphere.
