Yogya sultan gains support for 2nd term

YOGYAKARTA: The Bantul regency branch of the Indonesian
Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan) has voiced its
support for the reinstatement of Sultan Hamengkubuwono X as
Yogyakarta governor for the next term.

The working conference of Bantul PDI Perjuangan on May 11 and
May 12, also named Deputy Governor Paku Alam IX the candidate for
the same post for the period of 2004-2009, besides Idham Samawi,
the present regent, for the coming term.

Joko Purnomo, chairman of PDI Perjuangan's Bantul branch, said
in Yogyakarta on Tuesday the most vital decision of the
conference was the renomination of President Megawati
Soekarnoputri for the 2004-2009 presidency.

"The leadership of President Megawati, Yogya Governor
Hamengkubuwono X and Deputy Governor Paku Alam IX had succeeded
in promoting public welfare in the region," claimed Joko Purnomo.
