YLKI urges transparency in public policy for National Consumer Day 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chair of the Indonesian Consumers’ Foundation (YLKI), Niti Emiliana, has called for increased transparency regarding public policies and the prices of strategic commodities on National Consumer Day (Harkonas) 2026, commemorated annually on 20 April.
“YLKI highlights practices of tariff increases in strategic sectors such as transportation, energy, and drinking water, which are often not transparent and lack public participation,” said Niti Emiliana in Jakarta on Monday.
She explained that due to the lack of transparency in making various public policies, the public as consumers becomes the most affected party without sufficient space to voice objections or input.
In fact, she continued, public policies must be oriented towards justice and consumer protection, not merely business or fiscal interests.
One public policy that has recently come under scrutiny for its widespread impact on society is related to BPJS Health premium assistance recipients (PBI).
Previously, Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that of the 11 million participants deactivated in February 2026, only 2.1 million of them have had their participation reactivated as of 15 April.
Niti stated that health services and protection from risky products are basic consumer rights that must be guaranteed by the state, so accelerating the reactivation of deactivated PBI participants is an urgent step to ensure that no vulnerable members of society lose access to health services.
