YLKI Supports 100 GW Solar Development for Energy Diversification

The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) supports the government’s move to strengthen new and renewable energy, including the proposed development of 100 GW Solar Power Plants (PLTS) for energy diversification. “This policy must be viewed as a strategic effort to provide alternative energy for consumers so that the public has choices and is not entirely dependent on a single national electricity supply source,” said YLKI Executive Secretary Rio Priambodo in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday. According to Rio, energy diversification must be directed at strengthening the consumer’s position, creating energy independence, while enhancing the resilience of the national electricity system. Renewable energy is not only an environmental issue, but also part of consumer protection. Rio stated that electricity is not merely a commodity, but a basic societal need that sustains life, education, health, public services, and economic activity. “When the power goes out, it is not just the flow of energy that is disrupted, but also the quality of life and the certainty of consumer rights,” he said. “Energy is the lifeblood of existence. A strong nation is not only one capable of generating electricity, but one capable of guaranteeing its people access to reliable, fair, and sustainable energy,” Rio remarked.
